HISTORY OF THE CARRIAGE HOUSE
The Carriage House was built by an architect from Chicago who did work for the World's Fair in Chicago at the turn of the century. He then came to Eureka Springs and built his own cottage and then the Carriage House for his personal horses. The stalls are solid cherry, which to this day is still the original wood. The Carriage House is over 100 years old and it was restored 30 years ago to be used as nightly lodging. The Carriage House has also been called the Barn, and was the horse stables for the Crescent Hotel when it was a girl's school.
The restoring of the old barn was a fun project, all of the floors are the original floors. In the old cherry horse stables there are 3 twin beds. The Carriage House still has all of the gas lanterns but are not operating, also has the original barn door but is nail closed. The roomy downstairs has got twelve foot ceilings with two hanging wagon wheel chandeliers that hang over the pool table.
Upstairs, the walls of the loft are still the original cedar, and the hay lift pulleys are still there and working and the old hay door is how we have gotten all the furniture upstairs! All of the glass in the windows are original with stained glass in both of the front doors.
HISTORY OF THE MAIN HOUSE AND SUITE
The Main House was built in 1968 by some folks by the name of Owen. The Owens were Interior Decorators from Kansas City who designed this house with lot of "nooks and crannies". The little blue house across the street was also built by the Owens as a workshop while they were building the Main House.
We purchase the property in 1994 and have owned and operated ever since.
